Prevent Nurse Burnout: Work Less!

Are you tired of nurse burnout or feeling exhausted from your nursing job? Instead of waiting for staffing, toxic workplaces, and incivility to improve, do something about it yourself! I’ve been in nursing for over 20 years. I’ve fought with administrators for years.

Fortunately, I discovered long ago that the number one factor I can control and use to free myself from untenable nursing conditions is my finances. Having ample cash flow and a high level of financial well-being has allowed me to overcome burnout, invest heavily, take months off, enjoy time with my family and friends, and most importantly nurse on my terms.

By working part-time, I work 600 hours less than my full-time colleagues every year. I don’t work extra because I need to, only when I want to. Can you imagine enjoying nursing again? Any nurse can work less and live more sooner than your think.  Nurses who understand their personal finances and shift their perspective, will become empowered.  That’s why it’s so important to check your financial vitals!

The Enriched Philosophy

The Enriched Hierarchy
The Enriched Hierarchy

Are you dreaming of the perfect nurse work-life balance?  The emphasis is often placed on nurses to figure out how to cope with all the challenges of being a nurse. The administrative answer to “perceived” burnout is for you to get therapy, be more resilient, and do more wellness activities. What about the structural issues within nursing that could prevent nurse burnout in the first place?

Unfortunately, your scheduling, staffing, workplace, workflow, incivility, and work-life balance concerns are often ignored or rationalized. While shifting your mindset & perception of nurse burnout may help, shifting your ability to deal with the structural issues that contribute to it WILL help.  That’s where your financial vitals come into play!

Ensuring you have a high level of Financial Well-Being as a nurse can help you engage in REAL Self-Care. For example, quitting a toxic job, changing your shift or schedule, reducing hours, reducing stress, and actually having the time to get enough sleep, eat healthier, and so much more.

What’s Your Level of Financial Well-Being?

In addition to checking your financial vitals you should consider your financial well-being level.  The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created a private, short financial well-being quiz to measure how you feel about your financial state.  While they’ll give you a comparison to the American average in 2017, they don’t track the results. Another firm does: Morning Consult through their financial well-being score tracker. The results continue trending down!

Nurses in the American Nurses Association pulse survey have also said their financial wellbeing is on the decline. You can wait for your employer or someone else to solve your financial problems or you can learn to solve them yourself.  I want to teach nurses how to do that and more.  I’m fed up with how we’re treated.  Nurses like you deserve to be free of money stress and burnout.  You deserve to have a quality nurse work-life balance.   You deserve The Enriched Nurse Life.
